Top 5 place to visit in Malacca – The Historic Port City of Malaysia | Melaka trip 2021

Malacca or Melaka, known as the Historic State of Malaysia. Malaysia’s culture and history are still intact in every corner of Malacca city. Malacca is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Malaysia. This Historic State is also popular as a day trip destination in Malaysia. However, I took my time and went there to spend my weekend. We had our car with us so it was hassle-free to travel around the city.

Do you like exploring culture and history?

If you do then Malacca is a must-visit city for you when traveling to Malaysia. The city has all the modern facilities but you’ll have your time travel moment there for all the historical sites and heritage it hosts. It used to be a strategic port city actually.

Melaka is a place where culture met resulting in a very distinct multicultural architecture heritage. Even in modern time, it is easy to convince yourself that you traveled back in time when you visit Melaka. If you love that kind of travel, you will surely love Melaka.

The big question is, of course, what are the places to visit when you’re in Melaka? Here’s some I recommend:

1. Masjid Kampung Hulu

Masjid Kampung Hulu is the oldest functioning mosque in Malaysia, commissioned in 1728. The mosque was built by the Dutch during the time, with a very unique Javanese architecture. While most mosque nowadays uses the dome and minaret design, Masjid Kampung Hulu was so old that it still uses the obviously Javanese multi-tiered roof design. This was done because the dome and minaret were not yet popular at the time. As a place with this much historical value, Masjid Kampung Hulu is definitely a must-visit location.

2. Melaka City Archeological Excavation Site

Have you ever watch ancient exploration movies such as Indiana Jones or Tomb Raider? Want to know how it feels to be Lara Croft or Dr. Jones? Melaka City Archeological Excavation Site will provide you the experience! The place was an archaeological research and excavation site that’s active in 2010. Nowadays, you can see many artifacts they found there, from Chinese porcelain shards to animal bones. A truly fascinating scene to see!

3. St. Paul’s Church

St. Paul’s Church is a sanctuary located at the summit of Bukit St. Paul’s in Melaka. Built-in 1521 by the Portuguese, St. Paul’s Church is a place with huge historical value as it is often visited by St. Francis Xavier. There is even his ancient tomb at the center of the church, and you can also find a statue of the saint gazing through the city of Melaka. Yes, you can see the beautiful city of Melaka from here as a bonus.

4. Queen Victoria’s Fountain

The Queen Victoria’s Fountain is a fountain built in 1901 by the British. Not only does this fountain have a great historical value, but it is also still functioning even today! Located in quite a busy district, the Queen Victoria’s Fountain sits quietly accompanying other historical sites, like The Stadthuys Malacca, the Christ Church, and Tang Beng Siew Clock Tower. To top it off, there are a lot of delicious foods in the area so you can enjoy not only the historical Aura but also the great beverage!

5. Jonker Walk – Melaka Malaysia

You’ve been to Melaka but didn’t take a walk at the Jonker, that won’t sound cool. This is the main street of Chinatown, Malacca. This street is famous for antique shops, craft outlet, local restaurants, and Friday-Saturday night market. If you want to grab some souvenir then you must have a walk on the Jonker street.

Those are the places you have to visit when you’re in Melaka! The place is also easily accessible, located only 148 km from Kuala Lumpur. Accommodations are also plenty and good. For example, there’s the Mahkota Hotel Melaka which offers a Golf course, an outdoor swimming pool, and a squash field among others. Today I thought to share about two of my favorite Kiehl’s face mask; Turmeric & Cranberry Seed Energizing Radiance Masque and Cilantro & Orange Extract Pollutant Purifying Masque. Do you remember my recent Kiehl’s Online haul? Since then I’ve been using and loving these two Kiehls face mask. Sometimes even I get confused thinking which one I like the most.

Turmeric & Cranberry Seed Energizing Radiance Masque

Ingredients:

Aqua, Kaolin, Sorbitol, Bentonite, Butylene Glycol, Silica, CI 77891/ Titenium Dioxide, Cranberry Seed, Pentylene Glycol, 1 2-Hexanediol, Jojoba Seed Oil, Caprylyl Glycol,Xanthan Gum, Polysorbate 60, Polyacrylamide, CI 77492 / iron Oxide, Glycerin, C 13-14 Isoparaffin, Turmeric Root Extract, Ascorbyl Glucoside, Trisodium Ethylenediamine Disuccinate, Laureth-7, Eucalyptus Globulus Leaf Oil, Camelia Oleifera Leaf Extract, Pappermint Leaft Extract, Menthol, Eplobium Angustifolium Flower/Leaf/Stem Extract, Aminomethyl Propanol, Cranberry Seed Oil.

As soon as Turmeric & Cranberry Seed Energizing Radiance Masque came in the market I was totally won over it because it has Turmeric in it. Who doesn’t know about the brightening and antiseptic character of turmeric, right? I had to give it a try.

The second the jar is opened, you’ll see a thick and creamy mask with lots of whole cranberry seed in it. My pot is about to be empty so most of the seed is gone already. A refreshing, minty yet herby scent will please your mind as well.

The Mask applies smoothly; however, the seeds use to clump up before when there were a lot of them. I spread the mask evenly on my face along with my neck and relax while it dries. It gives a nice cooling sensation. Needless to mention why; it has peppermint in it. It dries up fast, maximum of 5 to 7 minutes. When the mask is dry I wet my face first then massage my face and neck gently for a minute. The cranberry seeds help to give skin a very gentle exfoliation. Then I rinse off the mask and follow with my other skincare stuff. It is suggested to wash off mask with warm water but I don’t have a hot water supply in my sink so I work with normal water.

I love the creamy feeling of this mask. It’s quite gentle on skin, doesn’t strip off oils from the face like a clay mask would do. It actually makes skin soft and supple. Not only that but every time I use the mask my skin gets visibly radiant. After a couple of months of use, I can strongly say that the mask is actually true to its claim. It has been helping me to maintain an even toned skin.

Cilantro & Orange Extract Pollutant Defending Masque

Ingredients:
Aqua, Shea Butter, Glycerin, Cetearyl Alcohol, Arginine, Gluceryl Stearate, Apricot Kemel Oil, Lauroyl Lysine, Vaccinium Mytillus Fruit Extract, Olive Fruit Oil, Cetearyl Glucoside, Squalane, Neohesperidin Dihydrochalcone, Coriander Seed Oil, Tocopherol, Sugar Cane Extract, Sclerotium Gum, Caprylyl Glycol, Ferulic Acid, Orange Fruit Water, Lemon Fruit Extract, Xanthan Gum, Lavender Oil, Pepermint Oil, Rice Bran Oil, Sugar Maple Extract, CI 77288/Chromium Oxide Greens, Linalool, Sunflower Seed Oil, Phytic Acid, Limonene, Citral, Geraniol, Citric Acid.

PS: This mask contains an Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) that is likely to increase sun sensitivity. Thus it is suggested to use at night only and avoid sun exposure during the using period.

Cilantro & Orange Extract Pollutant Purifying Masque; pollutant defending/purifying, this form of claim sounds a bit unique to me. If I elaborate, It’s a detox mask that draws out toxic element from the skin and helps to defeat skin from impurities. And with the term ‘impurities’ a lot of facts comes within, no? This was truly an interesting mask to try out.

Texture and behavior-wise this mask is totally in the opposite of the Turmeric & Cranberry Seed Masque. It’s a fast absorbing, super silky, emollient mask. Smells tremendously delicious (slightly strong, I would mention), something like a Cilantro + peppermint dessert. Contains tons of plant-driven extracts and oils. Cilantro & Orange Extract Pollutant Purifying Masque claims to act as a natural antidote to the harmful effects of pollution, revealing detoxified, renewed and radiant skin. Interesting fact about this one, it also meant to work as a leave on mask/sleeping mask.

I use the mask at night (as suggested) usually just after removing my makeup. It glides on the skin like an emollient moisturizer, feels pleasantly cooling. Sometimes when I feel like to have some extra cooling effect I keep the mask in the refrigerator beforehand for a while. Although the mask is creamy and more on the oily side, however, it doesn’t feel heavy on the skin. When applied my skin instantly hydrated the and relaxed. I usually keep the mask on for a good 15 to 20 minutes and then I wipe it off or wash it off. I tried it as a sleeping mask for a couple of times, I didn’t really like it that way. Additionally, as because I’m trying out a few targeted serum at the moment so I’m more likely to skip a sleeping mask nowadays.

The day I use the mask, my skin feels amazingly clean that I even started skipping my Clarisonic ritual for that day. However, for a deep cleansing day, I feel this mask alone isn’t enough. I go along with my Clarisonic, a clay mask beforehand.

I love both of these masks by Kiehl’s, probably love the Turmeric & Cranberry Seed Energizing Radiance Masque slightly bit more. These two works great together for a day and a night-time masking ritual. Additionally, I find these two are also perfect together to balance out the skin tone. Have you tried any of them? Just in time when I was feeling that I need to change my pillows, I was approached by Origin Malaysia (very much known for Origin Mattress) to try out Origin Superior Coolmax Latex Pillow. So yep, I was more than ready to be slept with!

mentioned writing above in the pillow box left me with a perplexed mind if the pillow is a latex pillow or a memory foam pillow? Or something just in between?

No, I won’t be going deep discussing the latex material and how it works. I’ll leave it to you to research.

Just to let you know a memory foam material and a latex material are not the same. The memory foam material is more on the softer side and can hold the shape of your head where latex pillows will feel firmer and can’t hold a shape.

Yet the latex pillows are more durable, hypoallergenic, and provides more sleep support. Usually, latex pillows have air pockets to keep the air flowing which helps to keep the pillow relatively cool.

However, you may want to keep a note that these pillows are a bit shorter in length than a regular pillow.

Don’t be surprised if your favorite pillow cover is not fitting right. In my case, it’s the white covered pillow you seeing in the picture.

I’m a feather pillow user, duck feather to be exact, and for years. I need my head to sink right in when I put my head on the pillow. I like my pillows soft, very soft, and as light as feather.

Even so, feather pillows are not much durable, you’ll know it if you’ve experienced that.

My son uses a memory foam pillow which I’ve tried out already. When I thought to change my pillow for this year I was in a latex pillow vs memory foam pillow dilemma for quite some time. But then (this opportunity of trying out a latex pillow came in front) I thought, it is definitely the latex pillow this time.

My Sleeping Experience with Origin Latex Pillow:

This Superior Coolmax Latex Pillow by Origin Malaysia looks and feels luxurious. As the latex criteria go, it’s on the firmer side. On a very firm and heavy side. Especially when I’m a feather pillow user I can feel the firmness for real. Yes, I’m being bluntly honest.

On the first day, My day time went relaxing with spa at home, some reading time lying on Origin Latex Pillow. I didn’t realize the firmness much. Then the night came and the next morning, I realized that my night wasn’t much nice!

Don’t get it wrong. It was not the pillow but my habit with a feather pillow.

It’s been three+ weeks until today I was giving the Origin pillow a good try. Now the firmness of the latex feels fine to me. Origin latex pillow does hug the curve of my head and neck yet, just as much as it suppose to be.

How cooling the Origin Pillow is?

– can’t really answer this question. The running aircon over my head doesn’t make things hot around my room.

To conclude my experience with Origin Pillow,

This is a nice pillow if you’re looking for a firm kinda pillow, a latex pillow. If you’re a soft pillow user like me then it might be difficult to adopt a latex pillow just as it was for me at the beginning. Nonetheless you’ll get use to just as I did.

5 types of GlamGlow Mud Mask Treatments & How They Worked On My Skin

Who doesn’t know about GlamGlow Mud Mask treatments? I was always keen to try them but their high price tag pulled me back. I have never been able to justify the price of a pot of mud mask. As because they are pricey, which one I should go for was confusing to decide as well. When I saw this travel set in Sephora with 5 GlamGlow masks, I couldn’t resist. This set is definitely amazing to try out the product and to decide for next. Also, if I look at the price tag (RM145) of this set, it is a bargain.

In this post, I’m mainly sharing my quick thought (which one I like the most which one I didn’t, etc) about all these GlamGlow masks so it help you to decide as well.

This GlamGlow Glamtastic travel set came within their holiday collection, retails for RM145 here in Sephora Malaysia. The set contains 5 travel size tube of most popular mud treatment and two set of Bright Mud eye treatment.

Youth Mud, Power Mud, and Thirsty Mud came in a 15 pack; Super Mud in a 10g pack, and two capsules of Bright Mud has 3g of product in each. Those two capsules of Bright mud were meant to be for two use and the other four-pack gave me an average of 5 use.

GlamGlow addresses their mask as a treatment pack because they’re not any random mask but each one is specially designed to treat your skin problem.

So let me tell you how was my experience with these 5 types of GlamGlow Mud Mask Treatments…

5 types of GlamGlow Mud Mask Treatments review

GlamGlow Power Mud | Dual Cleansing Treatment:

It’s a Mud to Oil cleansing treatment. When applied it looks like creamy mud, dries like mud but in the contact of water it turns into an oily substance. It claims to unite the Power of Mud & the Power of Oil to achieve SUPER amplified, deep cleansing, yet gentle results. Suggested to use twice a week.

I usually apply a thin layer, let it dry for 15/20 minutes then wet it again with water and massage for a few minutes before rinsing it off. This mask is pretty interesting looking at its mud to oil transformation, feels somewhat cooling in the skin. This one also contains fine granular particles so when massaging it also gently exfoliates the skin.

On normal days when I already have a clean face (without makeup), my skin feels pretty pumped and clean afterward however when I tried the mask right after cleaning my makeup I found it not really helpful cleaning my foundation to every bit. There was foundation residue afterward and I had to go back to my Clarisonic Mia2 to make sure my face is makeup-free.

GlamGlow Power Mud definitely gives a nice and soft feeling to the skin but looking at its claim, deep cleansing, and my experience (unable to clean my face with makeup) I’m not impressed with it at all. Surely not going to buy it again.

GlamGlow Thirsty Mud | Hydrating Treatment:

Advanced hydration active technologies, providing deep instant Hydration. Thirsty Mud Hydrates, Moisturizes, Restores, Replenishes & Calms the skin. New Super Technologies in Thirsty Mud will leave you with Hydrated Heart Pounding Glowing Skin. Suggested to use 2-3 times a week or when needed.

Thirsty Mud is a yellowish gel-like, when applied on the skin it appears transparent but like a creamy gel veil. This mask is extremely cooling on the skin, immediately soothes inflammation, calms down redness. I normally apply a thin layer just like I would apply my moisturizer then let the mask sit on my skin and try to enjoy the cooling sensation. after 15/20 minute I just wipe off the excess with a facial tissue.

Yes, you read me right, you don’t need to wash it off, you can leave it on but you can wash it off if you want to. I prefer leaving it on because I don’t want that cool sensation to go away.

Thirsty Mud doubles up as a sleeping mask/night cream. I love it as a night mask as well, I feel it helps me to fall asleep quickly. I didn’t know that I can love a hydrating mask this much that I find whenever I feel stressed, kinda every day! Whenever I used Thirsty Mud I felt instantly relaxed to my brain haha, I’m truly addicted to it. I find it true to its every claim and best hydrating mask I’ve ever used.

Wish GlamGlow mud masks were a bit pocket-friendly… phew!

GlamGlow SuperMud | Clearing Treatment:

SuperMud Treatment claims to fight all common skin like pores, blemishes, black/white heads, uneven skin tone and else. Suggested to use as often as needed as a spot corrector, once a week as a full face mask. Not for use on sensitive skin, limit sun exposure while using.

It’s deep gray in color, smells very herby (kinda mix of green Cardamon and Cloves, I like that), has fine granular particle as well as some seaweed like flakes in it. I find the texture of it is similar to Youth Mud just a bit less of those leaf-like flake and exfoliating particles but it doesn’t tingle the skin like Youth Mud does.

I use it as instructed, mainly at night (as it was said to limit sun exposure) leave it for 5/10 minutes (it dries quickly), massage a bit with water, then rinse it off. Skin feels nicely clean and revived, soft, and smooth but quite dry afterward. I follow it up with a hydrating mask (been using the Thirsty Mud) to restore hydration. As because I’ve used this mask only a few times so can’t tell anything about how it works as a spot treatment but I’m really interested to find that out. I’ll surely update you with that in the future.

GlamGlow Youth Mud | TingleExfoliate Treatment:

Youth Mud designed as a 10-minute professional ‘facial in a jar’ for behind-the-scenes use in Hollywood’s Entertainment, Music, Fashion & Award industries (well! those words always felt mouthful to me, only I could relate when I look at the price tag :p). Youth Mud provides gentle resurfacing exfoliation and helps to leave skin smoother, brighter, and softer resulting in immediate camera-ready glowing skin. Suggested to use twice a week.

The first thing that is noticeable in this mask is big chunky flakes of something leafy (green tea leaf – mentioned in the ingredient list). Those leafy things often make it hard to apply and spread. When applied it starts tingling (not burning) within a minute and that goes on for next 5 minutes. I usually leave it on until the mask dries up (it dries up pretty fast) then massage with water to exfoliate the skin and rinse it off.

Youth Mud has a lot of natural ingredients (green tea, chamomile, marigold, cucumber, etc) in it thus it smells herby or I should say heavenly! I love the herby smell :). It tightens skin while drying and no doubt it exfoliates the skin to it best without being harsh to the skin, unlike those sugar masks I used to exfoliate.

I made my husband (he is too busy to use any skincare!) use Youth Mud, he had a lot of dry skin around his nose and we both were surprised seeing the result in first use. His nose turned clean and dirt free like never before. I wish I took a before/after picture(though he would never allow me that😅). Actually, I didn’t expect that much of effectiveness from a mask!

This one doesn’t dry up skin like Super Mud does but I do like to follow up with a hydrating mask or a thick moisturizer right after the use. Since I started using Clarisonic Mia 2 I don’t really use any physical exfoliator but Youth Mud surely making me think of using an exfoliating mask again.

GlamGlow Bright Mud | Eye Treatment:

GlamGlow says Bright Mud is the world’s first TAP ON + WIPE OFF reverse action under eye & orbital eye treatment. Designed for an instant 3-minute result which means it will revive your dehydrated puffy under-eye within 3-minutes.

Bright Mud has a gel-like texture, enriched with Cocoa, Coffee seed powder, Peppermint leaf, and more goodness. To be honest I never believed it claims until I used it myself!

I have serious dry undereye and the way Bright Mud revived my under-eye area like instantly, it was amazing. Can’t tell much about this because I only used it twice But I’m impressed! I wish it would come in a jar so

I could use the amount I want, after all, it is extremely pricey! Looking at the price and its effectiveness I will surely think of it on that very special day when I need a quick fix for my undereye area.

Overall, It was not a bad experience with all these GlamGlow Mud Mask Treatments.

The PowerMud is not my favorite but the other ones are true to their claim.

I’m probably going to buy the SuperMud soon to experiment with it more but tossing between Thirsty Mud and Youth Mud. They’re both amazing but can’t afford all at once haha. Moreover, there are a few new additions available already to in the GlamGlow Mud mask range.

This baby lotion by Carrie is a fast-absorbing lotion that also promises to provide 48-hour of moisturization. Completely non-oily and light-weight on the skin just the way I prefer for my little one. It is infused with organic oat milk & milk of almonds to moisturize & protect the skin and also enriched with glycerin to hydrate and soothe baby’s skin.

Till date we didn’t notice a bit of skin issue while using these Carrie baby products. To talk about Carrie Baby products there is one more plus point…

These baby care products are very much pocket-friendly.

If you know the baby products market, mostly are imported and have a high price tag with them. Just because Carrie is a Malaysian brand you’re getting a quality product at a reasonable price.

Gel Manicure & Nail Art Experience at Maniqure Nail Salon, KL | #dressupMYnails

A while ago I was story-ing at I nsta my current blingy nails, did you noticed that? It’s been a couple of weeks and my bling nails are holding up pretty well. So thought that this is the right time to share with you my experience doing gel nails and nail art at Maniqure Nail Salon, KL.

I know I’m writing nails after long but I do believe beautifully painted nails always help to amp up mood and confidence.

Whenever I’m in the mood for the manicure I often wondered what’s the best places to get nails done in Kuala Lumps!

About Maniqure Nail Salon, KL

Maniqure Nail Salon is a freshly opened one at Sri Petaling, Kuala Lumpur. Just in case if you’re reading me from Sabah then be happy! Maniqure actually has its main branch in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

Alongside their professional (and friendly) manicurist services, Maniqure nail salon offers an extensive menu of manicure, pedicure, pampering foot spa, nail care, and waxing services too. You will love this pastel themed, spacious, clean, and bright nail salon interior just as much as I did.

Although the RMCO period was over I was hesitant to take a salon service. I must mention, the entire time I was there at Manuqure the salon wasn’t crowded, proper hygiene was maintained complying with the SOPs set by the government. It was truly a feeling of peace in mind.

My Experience doing Marble Bling Nails

I like gel manicure from time to time for my nails mainly because of how long-lasting they are. If a gel mani is applied right it doesn’t budge. Also, I can’t deny the shine and glaze throughout a gel mani wear period. At Maniqure Nail Salon, I booked an appointment for a gel manicure and nail art. Yes, the simple gel mani is priced separately also the nail art.

Girl, it was difficult for me to choose a design I wanted to do for my nail. I mean they literally have a heavy catalog of nail design. Finally, after a couple of hours (no kidding!) I decided to go with Nero Marquina Marble Nails.

I didn’t do any nail extension (that’s also available with an added price) but went with my natural nail. Turns out my nail base was actually a little smaller to fit my preferred design in the right way. The manicurist, May, assisted me to adjust the nail art with smaller ornamental pieces. She took around two and a half hours to complete the whole manicure (gel nails and nail art) procedure. The end result was great and I left the saloon with some finest bling nails.

The manicurist said the stones and everything will be intact in my nails for a month at least. Yes, my nails already started showing growth. I might need to get the gel nails removed (free of cost at Maniqure) within another couple of weeks. So the one month time period is actually fine.
