ELF Makeup Mist and Set | Alternative of UD Makeup Setting Spray?

8

ELF Makeup Mist and Set ($3), Probably this is the cheapest makeup setting spray available on the market. Which is why ELF Makeup Mist and Set is quite popular as well. It comes in a not-so-fancy plastic spritzer bottle with 60ml of product.

ELF Makeup Mist and Set

Ingredients:

Water (Aqua), AMP-Acrylates/Allyl Methacrylate Copolymer, Propylene Glycol, Tocopheryl Acetate (VE), Retinyl Palmitate (VA), Ascorbyl Palmitate (VC), Green Tea Extract, Aloe Arborescens Leaf Extract, Methylparaben, Ethylparaben, Propylparaben, Isobutylparaben, Butylparaben, Phenoxyethanol.

ELF Says:

ELF Makeup Mist and Set keeps your makeup in place all day with a radiance boosting invisible hold. The invigorating mist moisturises and soothes the skin with key ingredients Aloe, Green Tea, Cucumber and Vitamins A, C & E. The lightweight, comfortable and alcohol free formula improves makeup wearability and prevents colour from running or fading. Spray on after makeup application to set makeup in place or during the day for a quick touch up to refresh.

Application:

After you have applied your makeup spray a light mist 12-16 inches from your face with eyes closed to set your makeup in place or use for a quick touchup throughout the day to refresh your makeup. Let it dry naturally or blot with a tissue to help speed dry.

ELF Makeup Mist and Set

My Experience with Elf Makeup Mist:

Especially when the weather around you is humid and you love to wear make up a setting spray is a must to prolong makeup throughout the day. Another important fact is no one want powdery look in their makeup which is why you need a setting spray.

The current bottle I’m using is my third one. I’m using it not because it works just the way it claims but at some point, it works and its cheap. ELF Makeup Mist and Set does wipe away the powdery appearance of makeup, leaves a settle finish but doesn’t provide any radiance or glow as it claims. Some say it gives the dewy finish, I do not agree with that, my skin stays matte after application. In terms of holding makeup, it helps compared to not using any setting spray. Some people compare it with Urban Decay’s setting spray which I completely decline. Yes, this product does prolong your makeup’s lasting power but at no point its close to the high-end performance.

ELF Makeup Mist and Set

The product itself has no color to it, does have some kind of smell, but that goes away after a while. It feels a bit heavy on the skin when applied yet once it dries it feels ok. Apart from makeup setting, I like this product for another reason. It works wonderfully to wet eyeshadow or pigment, really helps to make colors more prominent and keeps them in place. It is also great as a mist for using throughout the day to refresh and hydrate skin. The last thing, the bottle is classic to look at and travel-friendly in size, but I don’t like the spritzer, it doesn’t spritz evenly. I hope someday ELF will improve its spritzer quality.

Overall, ELF Makeup Mist and Set is not a top-notch product but more than enough for basic needs. I like it for my day to day random use. For its price, I think it worth to give it a try.

Overview: January 2015

0

I can’t believe 2015 started, January is gone and it’s February already! It feels the time is flying faster than light speed. Let’s be practical, this is life! So, I’m saying ‘Hello February’ today, trying to document tad-bits of how I started the year and how was the month of January for me.

For me, 2015 came with lots of changes.
First of all, I and family decided to stay in Malaysia for a while. So we moved in an uphill town called Damansara Perdana. I freaking love this place already because it’s green, calm and quite all around.
Enjoy some snaps of this beautiful area…

[wp_ad_camp_3][/wp_ad_camp_3]

Then… me… to kick start a new year I went for a haircut at 31st eve!
I was carrying full fringe with plain layers for so long, needless to say, I got bored. I keep my hair open most of the time and don’t really style much. For my new cut, I was determined to have some texture in hair that will be visible in open hair without styling. I described my vision to the hairstylist, wasn’t sure if there is any formal name of the cut. We talked a lot about what I want, she suggested me a lot what would be better for me. Then finally, she literally sliced off my hair from inside. It was quite an experiment for both of us. At the end, I was happy seeing her expertise. She gave me exactly the cut I visualised. I’m sure my hair will take the time to grow in full after this but it looks so flattering now with texture and all without doing anything.
What do you think? By the way, the saloon called Snips.

And… January was my birthday month!
I turned one more year old! Passed the night before and the day with lots of activities like dinner, movies and all, of course, credit goes to Mr. husband. The looks below I wore for my birthday…
Overview: January 2015Overview: January 2015

In January 2015, for the first time, I sat for a professional makeup workshop under Lancôme! It was a short-term workshop but hell of an exciting event for me.
Lancôme!

….and then… my wedding anniversary was in January as well.
Also, a lot more random things happened in past month like I started reading some new book, started watching new series, trying to learn the Malay language, obviously shopped a lot and trying to cope up with the new place.

A special incident happened in January. Did you notice I didn’t blog last month? Do you wonder why? Probably my website got jealous of those changes and good things I was having in my personal life so it decided to crash. Yes friends, in January, all of a sudden I had to experience website database crash. This was a shock from January. However, It took me a month but managed to recover somehow. Better late than never, right? Feeling happy that I’m finally blogging today and hoping to move further smoothly.

Overall, January has been a month with multi-dimension. Now at this moment wondering what February will bring!

Five Beauty Favourite of 2014

4

Hello Beautiful Reader,
We are here at the edge of 2014 now. You must be busy planing 31st eve! 2014 has been a great year for me with of course some ups and downs yet at this end it feels like the year has just flown by.

In this last post of the year 2014, I’m featuring my five Beauty Favourites of the year. It wasn’t easy to pick five product only. I have tried lots of beauty product this year and so many of them become my favourite. Products I’m going to mention in this post are extra special because I have been using them continuously throughout the year and never really looked for their substitute.I haven’t got time to write about these particular products previously so though this is the right time to feature them. So, My Five

Beauty Favourite of 2014 are…

Beauty Favourite

1. Biore UV Aqua Rich Sunblock:
This is a water based sunblock with SPF 50, PA. Biore UV Aqua Rich Sunblock is the best-found sunblock for me till now. Every sunblock I used previously use to leave a white cast and greasy residue. This is the only sunblock I found that doesn’t leave any white cast or makes my skin greasy. It’s watery thin formula absorb into the skin so quickly and leaves skin supple afterward. Great to use before makeup as well. And top of everything effectively protect skin from sun damage. It’s been a complete year that I’m using and loving this product.

2. Pond’s White Beauty BB Cream:
Pond’s White Beauty BB Cream formulated with Pond’s GenWhite Cover Formula and has SPF 30 PA in it. This is another best of the year for me. It has medium consistency and provides a bit more coverage than other BB cream available in the market (in my experience). Gives matte finish; blends easily and has quite good lasting power. One drawback that it comes in one shade only which might not go with darker skin tone. However, It was my staple all over the year for go to makeup.

[wp_ad_camp_4][/wp_ad_camp_4]

3. The Balm MaryLouManizer:
This is a highlighter that I can’t live without till now. It gives a subtle highlight to skin that I believe will match any skin tone.If you don’t want soft finish then the good news is it can also be build up to that supper hi-lighted point if you want to. Love, Love Love this product and I’m sure I’ll be loving it next year as well.

4. MAC Lipstick Crosswires:
This lipstick is literally my most used shade not only in 2014 but ever since. I still couldn’t find the reason why I love this shade so much! It’s like my Rainy Day lip shade. I mean whenever I get confused and don’t like any shade to wear I just reach for Crosswires. It’s a soft coral, sometimes feels pinky, nude shade that pleased me always with any kind of look.

5. Essence Lashes Go Wild Mascara:
I used up three tubes of this mascara over the year and now I’m in the fourth one. So, you can guess how much I like this mascara. This mascara has uniquely shaped wand that helps to give volume and length at once. Not waterproof, I don’t like waterproof mascara, but doesn’t really budge without makeup remover. Doesn’t clump lashes and stays put till you remove. It’s a Budget mascara that meets my every requirement.

[wp_ad_camp_3][/wp_ad_camp_3]

***Ummm… there is one more thing that I want to feature! But that’s not product related but all about beauty!
Earlier this month I joined a facebook group named POP OF COLOR. It’s a Bengali community for all beauty enthusiast and even if you are a blogger or YouTuber. If you are into beauty and makeup then you’ll find so many like minded buddies there. You can get info, share your beauty thoughts, seek answers for your beauty related question and so on. Overall, this group is a total girly place full of beauty lovers.

At the end of 2014 I thank you all,
my reader, follower, subscriber and even if you are ghost reader 🙂

Thank you and a heart full of gratitude for being with me, inspire me and support me to come this far with GreenStory.

Wish you all A Happy New Year!

Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick | Review & Swatch

38

Today I’m quite excited to review Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick. These lipsticks were the best found of this month and I’m totally hooked with them.

When it comes to lipstick I’m totally a matte person because matte formula lasts long in my lips. Also, I prefer that lipstick that I can forget after applying, hate that fact of re-applying. So far one of my favourite for matte liquid formula was Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick until I got my hands on Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick. Trust me, no kidding, I didn’t even like LimeCrime Velvetines after getting my first one.

[wp_ad_camp_3][/wp_ad_camp_3]

At first I was sceptical about Bourjois Velvet Lipstick. There is total eight shaded available in the market. I bought one only, Grand Cru, to try. As soon as I realised its fantabulous quality I had to get more.

Bourjois-velvet3

Till now I have got four of them…

*Grand Cru 08
*Nude-Ist 07
*Frambourjoise 02
*Ping-Pong 06

Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick

About The Product:
These lipsticks come in a clear tube so you can see the lipstick colour it consists. Has a doe foot sponge applicator which is soft, precise and great at picking the product from the tube. Few of the lipstick smells slight paint like, but that’s not really overpowering. The square shape of the tube might give you bulky feeling. Overall packaging quality is nothing luxe but not even poor. It’s just standard, there is nothing to complain actually.
[wp_ad_camp_3][/wp_ad_camp_3]

Formulation:
First, I want to tell you guys the most amazing fact about these lipstick. It’s lightweight, I mean it is literally super lightweight than any liquid lipstick I’ve experienced so far. Once it dries I forget that feeling of wearing lipstick. I love this feeling.

Texture-wise Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipsticks are smooth and perfectly pigmented, turns into velvety matte texture when dried. Unlike other hyped liquid lipsticks, Bourgeois velvets are not drying at all unless you have super dry lips and doesn’t crack on lips when it’s dry. The lipstick doesn’t dry up within a second, it takes about a minute, which means you have the freedom to make your application perfect and precise. They are extraordinary long lasting, I wore them morning to night, ate, drink up to my head but after everything my lipstick was there. Note that I’m not talking about the stain, end of the day the actual lipstick was intact always. I was pleased to see the lightest color ‘NUDE-IST’ performs the same as the darkest color. As because they don’t dry hard so it does transfer a bit.

About the Shades…

Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick

Grand Cru is a deep dark blood red, slightly cool toned. This shade is my favourite of four. An awesome color to rock in fall and winter. It’s a unique shade of red that never owned before. Absolutely love it.

Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet LipstickBourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick

Nude-Ist is your everyday pinkish rosy nude. It has that perfect hue of color that is suitable for all skin tone. Regardless of skin tone, you don’t have to worry with Nude-Ist if it’s going to wash you out or not.

Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet LipstickBourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick

Frambourjoise is a fun shade. Its pink and its coral and sometimes it feels kind of a red shade. It’s not a soft shade, it not deep either. Therefore its makes a safe shade for almost everyone and every occasion.

Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick

Ping-Pong is almost a fluorescent pink with cool undertone yet it’s not any awkward kind of neon you’ll be afraid of. If you are a bright lipstick lover you’ll love this shade.

Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet LipstickBourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick

Overall Thought:
With Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick, you’ll get the high-quality product in a drugstore price. Without any doubt, they are in my top favourite list right now. Yes, I do love my Stila ones but they come with that heavy price tag. In this point I really wish Bourjois will come up with more shades.

Another fact I must mention, you can wear these lipsticks with your desirable opacity. Apply a thin coat first, spread and even out with lip brush then you’ll get softer opacity. After first coat gives it a minute to dry then layer up the second coat, you’ll get more intense color.

Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick

If you haven’t tried them yet then I highly recommend to give it a try.

Fall Makeup with Urban Decay Vice 3 Palette

0

How I created the eye look:
Fall Makeup with Urban Decay Vice 3
I started of with an eye shadow primer ofcourse. Used Essence I heart stage shadow base and blended that allover the lid. First I took the warm brown shade ‘Downfall’ from Vice3 palette and applied that into the crease area. Then with the shade ‘Alchemy’ defined the crease more and also slightly overdrawn the crease. Applied ‘Sonic’ allover the lid and blended that with crease color ‘Alchemy’. Then with the shade ‘Bondage’ defined the outer corned a bit. Highlighted my brow bone and inner corner with ‘Boby Dazzle’. Lined my upper and lower lash line with ‘Bondage’ and ‘Revolver’ mixed together. I applied Maybelline Colossal turquoise in my lower water line to brighten up the whole eye look. Lastly, applied few coats of Essence Go Wild Lashes mascara.
For Brows Ive used ELF brow kit in mediium.

Sigma 3DHD Kabuki Brush | 3-Dimension Face Makeup Brush, life-changing or not?

30

Sigma 3DHD Kabuki brush, a brand new and quite innovative face makeup brush by Sigma Beauty. They say, “Experience Beauty in 3D”. Interesting, isn’t it? At first glance, honestly, I thought it is weird to apply face makeup with a triangular-shaped brush! Luckily, It didn’t take me long to understand the unique fact hidden in that triangular shape. So, I got myself one to experience it.

This brush is available in three colors; white, black, and pink. I picked a pink one.

Sigma Beauty Says:

The 3DHD Kabuki is a multi-functional brush engineered to perfection. It was uniquely designed for all areas of the face to apply liquid, cream and powder products uniformly on every curve, crease, and angle. Patent pending.

Ridge: The functional ridge at the top of the brush has the perfect angle to apply liquid, cream or powder products reaching every curve, crease, and angle. Designed with a structure that is effortlessly multifunctional, 3DHD kabuki brush will do all the work for you, without having to move a single muscle of the face.

Double wedge flat surface: Allows application of liquid, cream or powder products on flat or slightly curved areas of the face in two simple steps. First, apply product using one side of the wedge, then use the second (clean) side of the brush to smooth the surface and eliminate any streaks.

Point: The sharp point of the brush can be used for highly precise application of cream, liquid and powder products. The point allows products to be perfectly applied in the under eye area and around the mouth.

Dimensions and density of fibers: The dimensions of the brush head were developed to provide fast product application while the density of the fibers allow for buffing products onto the skin. The fine fibers allow for coverage of skin pores.

Sigma 3DHD Kabuki BrushSigma 3DHD Kabuki Brush

My Experience with Sigma 3DHD kabuki brush:

I’ve used the flat top buffer brush to stipple brush from various brands to apply face products. I must say, still the best foundation application I get from the original Beauty Blender. Yet when I’m in the rush I completely depend on brushes because it’s less messy. Earlier I was hooked with Real Techniques buffing brush to apply foundation. Had to use other brushes for concealer. I also had to use a couple of more brushes for overall blending. Sigma 3DHD Kabuki Brush alone replaced all my other brushes.

Sigma 3DHD Kabuki Brush has a super dense perfectly linear measured bristle. The fibers are amazingly soft and the barrel seems to have really high quality. I have been experimenting with it lately. I tried this brush with various kinds of a product like thick, light, cream foundation, and concealer of course.

This brush blends everything effortlessly. It has that perfect size which is not too big or too small for a face. That unique angular edge of the Sigma 3DHD brush easily reaches every impossible corner of the face where I had to use another small brush. Now I apply foundation with this brush and using the same brush I can do my concealing as well.

This brush is also great for precise contouring. Here is one thing to note, for a thin liquid foundation if you use swipe motion with the brush to blend then it leaves streaks. You’ll have to dab or stipple the brush to get a seamless finish. I haven’t used it for powder yet because I like to lightly dust powder. Although, I’m sure it will also be great for powder foundation.

When it comes to clean this brush, I must mention, because of its finer density, it needs more effort than other brushes. I always find some product deep inside the bristle when I deep clean. Therefore, a regular deep clean is a must for this brush if you care about hygiene.

Overall, I’m loving Sigma 3DHD Kabuki Brush from the first use. This one brush saves so much time and delivers that perfect result. I agree with Sigma, it is a multi-functional brush indeed. If you haven’t tried this brush yet I highly recommend you try.

Urban Decay Vice3 Eyeshadow Palette | The Third Edition Of UD VICE Palette

10

Urban Decay Vice3 Eyeshadow Palette!! Oh My, I also got it like everyone! Couldn’t just ignore this beauty by Urban Decay! I assume you all know, last month Urban Decay released the third version of Vice Palette. I don’t remember craving for the first Vice palette. Last year I skipped UD Vice2 eyeshadow palette as well.

I’m more drawn to vibrant colors when it comes to eyeshadow. I don’t even own any of the famous naked palettes. Can you believe? Yes, I’m not a neutral shadow lover. When I saw Urban Decay came up with this vibrant and perfect ‘me’ type palette I had to get it.

Urban Decay Vice3 Palette is priced at USD$60/SGD$88

Urban Decay Vice3 Palette

Apart from that paper box packaging, Vice3 Palette comes with a matching felt-ish bag. I believe this is purposed to protect the palette. The bag can be re-used for any other purpose, maybe as a makeup pouch.

Vice3 Palette has a nice futuristic design in it. The name ‘Vice’ is embossed on the box. The material of the box is plastic which feels tacky. The printed design is foil-ish which comes off easily. I’m sure the surface of the palette is going to be scratchy very fast! The packaging quality is not satisfactory at all.

Let’s talk about the actual product! Urban Decay Vice3 Palette comes with twenty eyeshadow and a dual-ended brush applicator. The box also has a huge mirror.

Urban Decay Vice3 Palette

Urban Decay claims shadows here are ‘never seen before’. The shades have texture variety as well. There is a good mixture of matte, satin, shimmer and sparkly shade. They are also well pigmented and buttery smooth. Although I find matte ones are not fully matte, they have shimmer in it.

Matte and satin shades occur fallout. Some of them also feel powdery. The shade Truth, Heroine and Bobby Dazzle feels more powdery and less pigmented. However, all other shades are impressive in terms of quality. They work wonderful, blends easily with or without shadow base. This palette is a handy one to create a day to night, soft to smokey or any sort of creative eye look.

Closer look and Swatch without any primer or base:

Breakdown, Bondage, Sonic, Alchemy, and Downfall are my favorites from the palette. None of the shadows from this palette have any sort of chunky glitter in it.

The look below I created with Vice3 Palette…

Fall Makeup with Urban Decay Vice 3

The palette could have been better in overall quality but it consists of a great variety of colors. There is neutral to bold and cool to warm shade. Nothing too much, nothing too less but perfect. A great holiday palette indeed. Moreover, I’m just way too happy with those burgundy-ish shades. Overall, I like Urban Decay Vice3 Palette.

Sleek Oh So Special Eyeshadow Palette | Review & Swatch

4

Sleek Oh So Special Eyeshadow Palette packaging is that as usual sleek black packaging with a big mirror also comes with a dual tip sponge applicator. As might be expected, Sleek is not available in Bangladesh, I bought it through online. You’ll find some application instruction/suggestion back of the paper pack.

Sleek Oh So Special Eyeshadow Palette

Every shadow has a name, but that comes printed on a plastic sheet like all other Sleek shadow palettes. This is the face I do not appreciate for any shadow palette. I would love to see the names printed in the palette.

Here’re swatches with no primer or any kind of base…

Sleek Oh So Special Eyeshadow PaletteSleek Oh So Special Eyeshadow Palette

Sleek Oh So Special Eyeshadow Palette has that usual sleek quality pigmentation, nothing disappointing at all. You’ll find a variety of texture in this palette, some are matte, some are satin and some are sparkly. Only one shadow called ‘Bow’ is powdery and has poor pigmentation. The shade ‘The Mail’ is a matte warm yellow-cream shade which is similar to my skin tone, so you can’t really see that in the picture. With this Palette, you can easily create any day to night neutral-ish and even smokey eye look.

Overall, I’m satisfied with Sleek Oh So Special Eyeshadow Palette. If you are looking for one budget neutral-ish palette, I would highly recommend this one. I have also reviewed other Sleek Makeup palettes, do check those if you’re keen 🙂
